The Story

About Dusty Rust

Dusty Rust performing live with guitar

Born in the Hills. Forged in the City.

Dusty Rust's story starts in Lewiston, Idaho and winds through Kansas City, where his country roots picked up a blue-collar rock edge. That combination still defines the records: hard-traveled songs with a rough grain, a plain-spoken point of view, and a voice that sounds earned.

One of his earliest musical memories, according to Apple Music, was his father bringing home a drum set when he was three years old. It is a fitting origin story for a catalog that has always sounded more physical than polished.

"Country and Western with a Rock 'N Roll Attitude. All Hat, Stolen Horse."

From 2013 through 2018, his Thursday residency at The Westport Saloon turned into one of the anchor runs of his live history. Week after week, he sharpened the show in front of Kansas City crowds, building a following the old way instead of trying to manufacture one online.

Public artist pages also trace a run of shared stages with Dale Watson, Whitey Morgan, Hellbound Glory, and JB Beverly, plus a 2017 Ameripolitan Award nomination that put his name in stronger national company. In 2023, Dusty and the band hit Jackalope Jamboree in Pendleton, Oregon, adding a notable festival stop to the timeline.

The catalog now stretches from the 2013 self-titled release through Kansas City Cowboy, Stolen Horse, Secret Desert, and a recent wave of singles including "Singing With a Ghost," "Melinda," "Cougar," "If You're Gonna Leave Me," and the latest release, "The Wagon Wheel." Bandsintown also points to a fifth album, V, as the next step in that run.

Whether the room is a honky-tonk, a brewery stage, or a festival crowd, Dusty Rust still works from the same center: direct songs, raw energy, and a DIY approach that has already produced four full-length records without sanding the edges off.
